Man Utd early favourites to sign Aaron Ramsey – player set to leave on a free transfer

Manchester United are early bookies favourites to sign Arsenal’s attacking midfielder Aaron Ramsey, after it was revealed the Welshman will leave the North London Club on a free this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Ramsey was told in person that he was not going to be offered a new contract, meaning he is free to leave Arsenal at the end of the season.

Ramsey has spent a decade at the Emirates, and was initially offered a new deal to extend his stay but the offer was rescinded. The Wales midfielder told spoke three weeks ago about his contract situation.

“Everything has been going great with the club – we thought we were in a position where we had agreed a deal but that’s no longer the case,” Ramsey told the Guardian. “So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal this season and I’ll leave the rest with the club now.

“Am I disappointed? That’s a decision that they have made and things happen in football and you just have to get on with it and carry on playing the best I can. That’s all I am concentrating on and giving my best for Arsenal.”

Ramsey, 27, will now be looking for a new club and Man Utd are among the potential suitors for the player. Jose Mourinho could no doubt do with additional attacking options for United who have struggled scoring goals this season, and getting the player on a Bosman may appeal to the United manager.

Liverpool and Chelsea have both previously been linked with a move for Ramsey in the summer.
