Transfer Update: Man Utd willing to pay £150m on triple swoop

We expect Manchester United to be busy this summer in the transfer market with particular focus on upgrading the defence and midfield.

Michael Carrick is likely to make his final appearance for the club in tomorrow’s Premier League encounter against Watford, with his chance of playing in next weekend’s FA Cup final slim to none.

If United are to challenge rivals Manchester City for the league title in a year’s time, Jose Mourinho is going to need to spend big in departments that have not met the required standards throughout the season.

And with that in mind, the Metro reckon that we could spend as much as £150 million on three players alone.

That first player listed is Danny Rose of Tottenham Hotspur. The left-back would come in and cement a role left by Luke Shaw, who is currently behind Ashley Young in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Young turns 33 over the summer and Mourinho should also look to bring in a natural left-back rather than settle for makeshift options.

The Metro also echo claims United are in pole position to sign Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with reports from the Independent already suggesting this to be the case. The £80 million-rated central midfielder is allegedly a like-for-like replacement for Paul Pogba, but the boss doesn’t think the Frenchman is going anytime soon.

Shakhtar Donetsk central midfielder Fred is the third player mentioned in the article. The Brazilian is considered by many as more defensively minded than Milinkovic-Savic and gained a lot of interested following this year’s Champions League campaign.

Reports like these are often hit and hope. We have heard of any updates on Rose just yet but the other two are certainly looking likely to join the Reds this summer. We shall have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months.

Silly season is near.
