Koke’s new release clause rules out United’s chances

Jorge Resurrección Merodio, also known as Koke, has put pen to paper on a new and improved deal at Atletico Madrid. According to Spanish media outlet MARCA, the new deal will see Koke’s release clause bumped up to €60 million.

In December David Moyes was spotted at the Vicente Calderon when Atletico Madrid hosted FC Porto in the Champions League. The Manchester United manager was believed to be scouting Koke, who later brushed off interest from the English champions.

However, reports in Spain suggested Moyes was willing to meet Koke’s €24 million release clause but we can rule that one out now that it has been increased by €36 million, at least.

It’s a shame because bringing in a midfielder of Koke’s standard would have been superb for the squad. And with the new release clause, I cannot see United breaking their transfer record by a margin like that anytime soon.

Glazernomics and that.
