Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has every intention to return to Manchester United if offered the opportunity.
After weeks of growing tensions, the Premier League giants decided to sack Ruben Amorim and his staff on Monday morning. The Portuguese tactician sealed his own fate with a feverish press conference following Sunday’s draw at Elland Road.
Man Utd replaced Amorim with the club’s U18 head coach, Darren Fletcher. The 41-year-old Scot will be at the helm when the Red Devils take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday. He could also lead the Reds in Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Brighton.
Nevertheless, Fletcher might not dwell with the first team for too long, as the club could opt to replace him with a more experienced profile who would serve as an interim manager until the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘ready’ to return to Man Utd
In the latest video uploaded on his official YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Solkjaer is a genuine option for the interim role.
The Italian journalist also mentions Michael Carrick as an alternative option, but the Norwegian remains the favourite.
Romano insists that Solskjaer would jump at the opportunity to return to Carrington, insisting that ‘he doesn’t care’ about the money, the title, or the length of the contract, as his priority is to offer all the support United need amidst these turbulent times.
The 52-year-old had already told people in his entourage that he’s ‘ready’ to make a return to his beloved club.
Why Solskjaer is a popular choice among Man United fans

Solskjaer remains an absolute legend of the club. He spent the last 11 years of his playing days serving under Sir Alex Ferguson, and his winner in the surreal Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 1999 is arguably the most celebrated goal in the club’s illustrious history.
The former striker had already been appointed caretaker once before when he replaced Jose Mourinho in December 2018. After a promising start, MUFC handed him a permanent contract four months later.
As it has often been the case at Man Utd over the past 12 years, Solskjaer’s tenure ended in his sacking in December 2021. Nevertheless, the Kristiansund native lasted longer than any other head coach in the post-Ferguson era, and many still identify his stint as the most entertaining in terms of playing style.

I have to write the following post for the simple reason that I notice that more and more experts like Neville and others like him are appearing who think they know everything but simply have no idea about football. Amorim is being attacked all the time as if his tactics are not good and that is why he cannot achieve good results, and in the past we have seen a bunch of coaches who tried all possible tactics, but did not get any results. The problem is simply bigger than what is happening in the club, and Amorim was one of the rare coaches who had the courage to stand up and publicly express all the problems that are taking the club to the abyss. I am tired of coaches who are obedient to the club owners and have no courage, here they are simply interested only in money without starting a deep project to change the habits in the club. Just look at the majority of the players when they go out on the field they do not show any signs that they want to win and are very lethargic, they only play until the match ends with small exceptions for individuals who leave their heart on the field. Amorim was a coach who started to change the mentality and make the players braver, but he needed time and new players who would leave their soul for the club, and not be interested only in money. Start recruiting players who will love the club and die for it on the field, and clean up all the filth of players who are not capable of running for 90 minutes, and the same goes for all the managers in the club who just show off and think they are doing something, but are a real loss to the club.
Well said. I liked Amorim and he should have at least been given time to finish the season.
