Ruben Amorim has been sacked by Manchester United this morning, as confirmed by the ever-reliable David Ornstein.
Darren Fletcher will now take the reins on an interim basis.
The Portuguese coach’s tenure comes to an end after 14 months, during which he managed 47 league games.

Ruben Amorim sacked by INEOS after just over a year
In that time, Amorim oversaw 15 wins, 13 draws and a whopping 19 losses. He guided United to their lowest-ever Premier League finish on record last season when they sat 15th-placed upon the culmination of 2024/2025.

United rounded off that same campaign with a dismal showing in the Europa League final. They lost 1-0 to fellow strugglers Tottenham Hotspur, who finished 17th in the league that season, in Bilbao, setting in stone that they would not be playing any form of European football in 2025/2026.
Such tumultuous form has only continued in what would’ve been Amorim’s first full season in the dugout. United are only three points adrift of the top four, but have dropped points to teams ranked 16th or below in the table (Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United) in the last two matches.
They sustained defeats to a 10-man Everton side at home, lost 3-1 to Brentford, and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the earliest stage following a calamitous defeat to League Two Grimsby Town back in August.
Amorim’s tenure comes to a sour end
In the aftermath of Sunday’s 1-1 draw against arch-rivals Leeds United, Amorim appeared to hit out at the hierarchy, saying in his post-match press conference: “I am not going to quit.
“I am going to do my job until another guy comes here to replace me. I am going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach. That is going to finish in 18 months and then everyone is going to move on. I came here to be the manager.”
Subsequent reports suggested that tensions were indeed growing between Amorim and Sporting Director Jason Wilcox, and, after meetings held earlier today, INEOS have come to the conclusion that his time at United has run its course.

By Christmas 2024 it was very clear that the only direction Amorim will lead the club is down the table. More than a year and millions in cash wasted. Better late then never. We are 6th in the table simply because teams like Crystal Palace and Brighton have been stripped of their best players. Now the board has to get serious and not appoint someone who has won the Maldives league.
Bring King Mourinho back to United!
The pain and suffering could have been avoided a long time ago. The damage he caused is huge, just look at the quality youngsters he pushed out. The young players were the best players to emerge from the Club’s Youth Academy yet he displaced most of them. The next in line was Kobbie, and still the leadership continued to be dazzled by Amorim’s endless talk and promises. I took a vow on January 1 that I would not watch Man U matches until Amorim is gone. Fortunately, the boycott is not going to last long cause on Wednesday I will be glued on my tv and have no doubt that Fletcher will deliver in his first match in charge. The tools are already there, it is the craftsman who was missing. Go Man U go!!!
