Manchester United will likely push to sanction the departure of Rasmus Hojlund after Benjamin Sesko has officially completed his Old Trafford move.

It’s expected that Sesko will be unveiled to the United faithful this afternoon when the Reds host Fiorentina in their final pre-season friendly. Then, when kick-off gets underway, Hojlund could be overseeing his final minutes in a Red Devils shirt.

According to transfer expert David Ornstein speaking on The Athletic podcast, there is a ‘very good chance’ the Danish international is offloaded in some form before the window closes, with United open to all options, whether it be a loan or permanent sale.

This comes after AC Milan established their interest in a loan acquisition of Hojlund, which would include a £34.7 million buy option for them to mull over throughout the season.

United will have to stomach a considerable loss on the ludicrous £64m they forked out for him back in 2023, although a run of revived goalscoring form could lead to Hojlund increasing his value in 2025/2026 before being sold this time next year.

He remains contracted to the club until 2028, with United having the option of extending his stay by an additional campaign.

Last term, the 22-year-old recorded a measly four Premier League goals in 32 appearances – six fewer than he’d managed in the 30 matches he played in his maiden year.

Unlike forward counterpart Joshua Zirkzee, Hojlund offers significantly less in attack and on the ball than his silky teammate, making it no surprise United are more open to him leaving than Zirkzee.

  1. The best man utd are to do is to loan out Hojlund for him to keep developing.Sanctioning a permanent exit will come back to haunt us when he rediscovers his form and may be Sesko is struggling to adapt to the physicality of the EPL.

  2. If man UTD are to offload Hojlund permanently, please include a buyback clause in the deal.We shall soon regret losing such a talent the moment he starts thriving in his new club.A loan deal is the best.We can still keep him to compete for minutes with Benjamin Sesko and send the other young talents out on loan.
