Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd willing to loan Rasmus Hojlund to AC Milan on two conditions

Manchester United wouldn’t mind loaning out Rasmus Hojlund to AC Milan, but two key conditions must be met.

The 22-year-old endured an utterly miserable 2024/25 campaign, where he only managed to find the back of the net on four occasions in the Premier League. Although the team as a whole was shambolic, the Dane’s shortcomings in front of goal symbolised the club’s worst season in 51 years.

While Hojlund wasn’t among the five players who were dropped from Ruben Amorim’s pre-season plans, his exit wouldn’t come as a shock, especially following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko who is finalising his transfer to Man Utd on Friday.

AC Milan keen to sign Rasmus Hojlund

In recent days, AC Milan emerged as the primary candidate in the race for Hojlund. The former Atalanta man has several suitors in Serie A, but the Rossoneri have launched a genuine attempt to sign him, identifying him as their top target after failing to find a breakthrough in their negotiations with Juventus for Dusan Vlahovic.

As revealed by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Man Utd have agreed to send Hojlund to Man Utd on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

For his part, Fabrizio Romano confirms the news, but insists that the Red Devils have also set two stipulations to sanction the deal.

First, the San Siro outfit must pay a considerable loan fee, worth at least €5 million. Second, the Rossoneri must cover the striker’s salary in full, as INEOS don’t plan to contribute to his wages while he’s away.

Man United set their conditions to loan out Hojlund

While these sound like reasonable conditions, it remains to be seen if Milan will consent to them.

Despite the growing competition, Hojlund is willing to stay at Carrington and fight for his place. However, Romano insists that the Dane would pack his bags if Amorim or anyone in the management asks him to leave.

The centre-forward cost Man Utd £72 million in the summer of 2023, so INEOS will be hoping to recoup at least £40 million from his sale to avoid registering a capital loss according to the Premier League’s PSR rules.

  1. I feel for Rasmus but it may be in his best interest to move on. From a United perspective, I’m concerned that we will be back to only one recognised striker in the team / squad

    1. Yes I agree with you he is trying, mostly injuries are unpredictable, it could happen to sesko and mbeumo together what do you then. We have FA CUP TO WIN In Shaa Allah and other CUPs subsequently, we should be looking for a defensive midfielder a strong 4 that can double task as 8 and can score, follow loose balls. We have to have a winning team. Good luck lads. C1

    2. Man united should avoid selling their players at a big loss, send them on loan or sell them wisely with buyback clause.

    3. He lacks basics as a centre forward. He cannot shield the ball properly and is too nervous before the goals.

  2. Too many below par players in United has brought the club to its downfall. No hope of any good with the current choice of captain, goalkeeper and coaching staff. Cannot expect much good from Onana. A club like United shall never depend on players like Onana. Without a keeper theres no team.

  3. The bomb squad + dalot + bruno’s unwillingness to pass the final ball to him, contributed to his failure and misery. He came at a time when everyone was looking forward for Harry Kane signing. He wasn’t at all to be blamed. He will flourish in Milan!

  4. I am baffled that United would attempt letting Hojlund leave without a second thought. We are all aware of how rash some defenders in the EPL are. What if injuries plagues the squad and there aren’t replacements to pick off from whence their colleagues left off? Methinks Hojlund should remain and play second fiddle to Sesko to build his confidence in front of goals.

  5. Make sure they didn’t repeat Mc Tominay case. Hojlund really got potential and now he got at least 2 years premier league experiences that really help him. Who know this coming season his form improve and loan club will get benefit and Man utd could suffer as a loser.

  6. Keep rasmus n buy a experience forward so he can learn. Both rasmus n sesko are similar why spend and hope.
