Manchester United are reportedly on the cusp of welcoming their second summer signing in the form of Valencia starlet Javi Guerra.

In a completely out-of-the-blue update this morning, reputable journalist Daniele Longo claims the 22-year-old is ‘close’ to joining United.

Currently, it remains to be seen what kind of fee or terms the prospective deal entails.

Who is Javi Guerra?

A versatile box-to-box midfielder, Guerra has been plying his trade with Valencia since 2019, but didn’t break into the first-team until 2022.

He has since racked up a whopping 89 senior appearances for the Spanish outfit, including 65 starts in La Liga, where he’s returned eight goals and four assists.

Guerra, who’s earned 21 caps for Spain’s U21S, has attracted interest across Europe for his stellar showings – so much so that he agreed a move to Atletico Madrid this time last year. However, the transfer failed to materialise after Conor Gallagher, Diego Simeone’s first-choice target, accepted Atleti’s proposal and severed his 18-year ties with Chelsea.

Arsenal have been credited as one of Guerra’s suitors this summer in a bid to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s midfield ranks, although they’ve yet to make a formal approach or submit a proposal.

Ruben Amorim could finally see his options bolstered

Alas, it seems as though the Red Devils have swooped in and beaten other sides to the youngster’s signature, with their interest dating as far back as January 2024.

Scouts had been sent to watch Guerra in action on several occasions and were left thoroughly impressed with what they’d witnessed, making it no surprise United have revived their pursuit now.

Fans will likely be taken aback by the news, given the general expectation was that a centre-forward would be INEOS’ top priority alongside Bryan Mbeumo.

  1. Good to see we have moved on to other areas whilst waiting for the go ahead of Mbeumo. It is a surprise to all but a mobile midfielder was always welcome. A striker may be next but WHO.

    1. Why are we waiting for a go ahead for Mbeumo?
Haven’t we learnt anything from the Antony and Frankie De Jong sagas?
As good a season as Mbeumo has had last season, it’s still only one season and doesn’t warrant this extended struggle, and who are we struggling with exactly?
I don’t see any other team challenging Manchester united for his signature so what exactly is going on? If an improved bid has been rejected, then please move on, there’s absolutely no need to be desperate and pathetic, Bryan Mbeumo isn’t a Lamine Yamal or Lionel Messi

  2. Good news if it’s true. Wasting time waiting for Mbeumo to be finalized. Next is a striker and keeper.

  3. I like the new united when it comes to buying players. It use to get leaked who we were after then our rivals would pounce. Not anymore we’ve got good negotiators.

  4. MU is known for making such an unwanted buying when a striker is very badly required. I feel this is not required right now.

  5. MU just sport for other team like arsenal liverpool man city to mention
its a good bye then add mateta

  6. What about the defence?
We conceeded over 50 goals last season and ended up with +-ve gd. Same happened the the season before.
The keeper. Will still be the same again this season?

  7. Strike quick and under the radar, all Clubs are sending red herring information out, it throws others off the scent or pushes them into purchasing quickly a player they were not interested in in the first place. Great if you can keep who you are scouting under you hat.

  8. I can’t believe John thinks Utd are doing well with transfers. Nothing has changed, there are world class strikers out there that want to come to Utd even though we are shit, and what have they done? Nothing except look at cheap alternatives who are passed it and never really made an impact in the league. Utter shite.

  9. I will love man u to sign osihmen
We should buy a defender and midfielder
    and replace onana

  10. His club want to tie him to a new contract and his present one runs until 2027

  11. Manchester United management please don’t waste too much times to get sign any targeted players i.e dragging Mbeumo case. Having a good pre-season could help the players to adapt Amorim style and any delay could interupt his preparation for the team.

  12. Man United FC needs a striker such as Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osinhem to replace misfiring Hojlund and Zirkzee. Garnacho is far better than Rasmus and Joshua. Sell Marcus Rashford Jadon Sancho Anthony . We hope Mbeumo will not be a flop like Sancho who was chased for two seasons but failed to score two goals in four seasons

  13. Manu should do something.we need the striker coz we don’t have.harry up time is going.

  14. If we could just get players in all departments who’ll give us Diogo Dalot’s kind of commitment, we’ll be back up there. My man anytime

  15. The board has a game they’re playing which is never the interest of the club so it’s hard for Man united to even come close this starting season

  16. Complete nonsense rumour with no basis. We won’t be signing him. Especially anytime soon

  17. Man Utd transfer news is getting me and others annoyed
The speculation of Mbeumo is too much, since June till now July nothing has been achieved.
If you don’t want to overpaid then move on must it be the same news all the time?
United board are so annoying,I thought INEOS comes to change some kind rubbish but is still the same nonsense we are still seeing
After the sign of Cunha on June 1st we all thought that new era has begun not knowing is just decoy
