Manchester United linked with €40m-rated Valencia midfield ace

Manchester United are being linked with Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra as an option in the transfer market.

It has been suggested that United’s interest in Guerra arises amid the strong possibility of Paul Mitchell’s arrival at the club. Mitchell is a respected sporting director who previously held Head of Recruitment roles at Southampton and Tottenham.

Guerra, 20, has established himself as a key player for Valencia this season and Relevo believe they will set a price between €35-40m for his signature.

The report – written by Nacho Sanchis and Matteo Moretto – states that United have been closely monitoring Guerra by sending scouts to Valencia matches on more than one occasion.

Guerra, who came through Valencia’s youth system, has a release clause worth €100m, which should protect the club from losing a key player midway through the season. Ineos are not expected to have an impact on the January transfer window since the Premier League has yet to ratify a deal that will see Ratcliffe own 25% of the club.

Any targets set by Mitchell, or whoever comes in as sporting director/head of recruitment, are likely to be listed for the summer. That is why Guerra is one to key an eye on over the coming months.

Another club linked with Guerra is Juventus, but their budget is low as things stand.
