Sky Sports bombshell just cleared path for Man Utd to complete long-awaited transfer

Manchester United might just be preparing themselves behind the scenes to receive an offer for an outcast player.

After a somewhat concerningly quiet transfer window up to this stage, the Old Trafford faithful are counting on INEOS pulling their fingers out and overseeing an efficient month before 2025/2026 gets underway.

As things stand, the only movement in or out of the club has been Matheus Cunha’s arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers last month. While the prolific attacker will provide a much-needed revamp to Ruben Amorim’s frontline, he alone is not enough to take United from a 15th-placed side to one that’s competing at the top end of the table.

It’s widely expected that Bryan Mbeumo will become United’s second acquisition in the near future, given that talks have been ongoing between the Red Devils and Brentford for the last few weeks. A £62.5 million bid was rejected last week, but there remains optimism that a deal can be agreed – especially given the player himself has made clear his desire to join the 20-time champions.

Who can United sell to raise funds this summer?

Then, assuming Mbeumo’s switch is finalised, INEOS will simply have to turn their attention to sales in order to replenish the transfer kitty.

All of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have been made available since the window opened – and the latter has gained a new suitor in recent days.

Indeed, Rashford has been added to Bayern Munich’s shortlist amid their ongoing attempts to sign a proven winger, as per Bundesliga insider Christian Falk.

The German giants are said to have ‘genuine interest’ in bolstering Vincent Kompany’s ranks with the exiled Red, who faces an uncertain future after Aston Villa opted against activating the £40m buy option in their loan terms.

Rashford is expecting to return to Carrington on Monday to begin pre-season preparations with his teammates, despite the fact that he won’t play any role in Amorim’s plans throughout 2025/2026.

That is, of course, unless he is on the brink of a permanent move away from his boyhood club.

This morning’s developments have prompted fans to question whether Bayern’s interest could materialise sooner than originally anticipated after Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas confirmed the club had an approach for Luis Diaz instantly rebuffed by Liverpool, who subsequently made it clear the Colombian is not for sale.

Bayern will now have no choice but to go back to the drawing board in their forward pursuit, meaning they could well decide to test United’s resolve for Rashford next.
