Manchester United are reportedly hoping to pounce on the thorny contract talks between Roma and Mile Svilar, and sway the latter to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils thought they had secured their goalkeeping department for years to come when they splashed £47.5 million to buy Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

However, the Cameroonian has been a nuisance for MUFC with his shaky displays between the posts and constant errors. His understudy, Altay Bayindir, hasn’t entirely impressed either.

Thereofore, most fans and observers believe that signing a new goalkeeper is absolutely imperative for the fallen Premier League, as it is essential to have a safe pair of hands between the sticks for a club yearning for a revival.

According to Il Messaggero (via Roma Siamo Noi), United are keeping a close eye on the latest development regarding Svilar and Roma.

The Italian capital side has been working on finding an agreement with the 25-year-old on a contract renewal for several weeks now, but to no avail.

Hence, the talks may have reached a standstill, which could provide Man Utd with the perfect opportunity to launch a timely onslaught and snatch the Serbian’s services.

Nevertheless, the Italian newspaper reveals that Bayern Munich are also devising a similar plan, as they too are interested in the custodian who was named Best Serie A Goalkeeper of the 2024/25 season.

Mile Svilar yet to sign a new deal with Roma as Man Utd lurk

Svilar is an Anderlecht youth product who rose to prominence during his time at Benfica. Nevertheless, the Portuguese giants allowed him to leave as a free agent in the summer of 2022.

The shot-stopper was picked up by Roma, but he initially had to serve as an understudy for the vastly experienced Rui Patricio, before eventually usurping him with Jose Mourinho’s blessing.

The Special One was so impressed with the Svilar, he hailed him as a ‘beastly boy’ and an ‘absolute phenomenon’.

The former Benfica man was born and raised in Belgium, and represented the country in almost every age group, before declaring for Serbia at the senior level. He currently competes for a starting role with his international teammate Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who is yet another Man Utd target.

  1. We are all waiting to see who comes after Mbeumo. Who will be our new CF and a midfield slot has to be filled as well as goalkeeper.
Amorim may bring in a RWB and a CB. The talk around pubs and clubs now, is all about how many players will be coming in, and how many will be going.
Will Gyokeres come, and will we get Ederson for midfield, who will be our new goalkeeper etc. There is even talk about us winning the Premiership next season.
My my what a transfer window can do
to fans, who were so faithful after the worst season in the Premier league, scoring just 44 goals and finishing a lowly 15th position. Wilcox and Vivell will have statues erected alongside the trinity, if they can manage to get us Gyokeres, Ederson, and a goalkeeper along with Cunha, and Mbeumo.
That’s 5 top players and one short of the number (6) which was said that we wanted this summer. We need to move players out now before we can bring these players in, and who knows. It could be 6 before the end of this transfer window. Win the Premiership next season, NO. Wake me up now.
