Amorim left bemoaning Ten Hag’s transfer mistakes as he grows ‘increasingly frustrated’ with £120k-a-week man

It says something when INEOS are having to scour the market for replacements for players signed by Erik ten Hag in the last two years.

Yet, that looks to be the case for the likes of Antony, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, all of whom have drastically failed in their attempts to impress since signing for Manchester United.

This week’s events have seen Onana come under the microscope – and for good reason. His shambolic display in Wednesday’s win over Ipswich Town left fans dumbfounded as they watched the 20-time champions concede inside five minutes due to a mishap between the goalkeeper and Patrick Dorgu.

United were able to claw their way back into the game before eventually sealing all three points, but not without various hiccups along the way. The Tractor Boys added a second on the brink of half time; Jaden Philogene fired a low cross into the area, which Onana clearly failed to anticipate the trajectory of, as it bobbled its way through the box and into the back of the net while the Reds’ defence watched on.

The Cameroonian’s showing in the midweek contest has added to a catalogue of calamitous mistakes committed by him in his one-and-a-half seasons at the club, and with Altay Bayindir currently unavailable due to injury, Ruben Amorim has little to no choice but to stick with Ten Hag’s chosen shot-stopper – for now, at least.

GiveMeSport claims the head coach is growing ‘increasingly frustrated’ with Onana since taking the reins last November, so much so that goalkeeping targets are now being shortlisted ahead of the summer window. Burnley’s James Trafford, who’s on a formidable run of 12 consecutive clean sheets in the Championship, and Porto’s Diogo Costa are among the candidates in consideration by the scouts.

  1. Replacing one ten Hag flop with an Amorim flop? United need to look at the bigger picture and decide who is in charge. Managers should come in to coach the team and styles they have been playing to, not change the system, the Club should own the styles they play to not the various managers who come in. There is no continuity of playing staff or style with this method management change. Poor incite and outdated practice.

  2. Ruben needs to go. He’s okay in pub leagues, but he’s been found out in the Premier League.
He’s not a manager in the mold of pep or carlo and definitely not fergie. Incapable of thinking outside the box.
I wouldn’t good him to work for me, my job requires top thinkers, not people like him
