While some observers believe Ruben Amorim could be facing the sack, Stan Collymore suggests the manager could leave Manchester United but for a different reason.
The Portuguese tactician was only appointed in November as a replacement for Erik ten Hag. But as expected, his mission proved to be particularly daunting. However, the main issue for Amorim is that the club continues to plummet towards new lows. Sunday’s defeat at Tottenham left them in a shocking 15th place in the Premier League table.
This has already prompted unthinkable relegation talks, even though most pundits believe the Red Devils should have enough points in the tally to survive by the end of the season, mostly thanks to the woeful forms of the likes of Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester City.
Stan Collymore feels Ruben Amorim could decide to quit Man Utd

Therefore, Amorim has made it clear on several occasions that his job is on the line since it naturally hinges on the club’s results. Moreover, there has been a growing number of news reports suggesting the management could indeed pull the trigger on the 40-year-old’s time at Carrington.
Nevertheless, Collymore believes quite the contrary. The former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker believes Man Utd have the right man in Amorim, but it is the latter who could decide to call it a day and end his collaboration with the club.
“For Man United, they’ve got the right man, but instead of sacking him, it might be a case of him having had enough and going back to Portugal,” suggested Collymore in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside.
“Jose Mourinho was vocal about what’s wrong at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag said it. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said it. Every single Man United manager over the last seven or eight years has said it and they were all right. And that’s the worry.
“I don’t worry about Man United moving on from Ruben Amorim but my worry is that Ruben Amorim will move on from Man United.”
Amorim’s current deal with the Red Devils is valid until June 2027, but this shouldn’t stop either party from reaching a mutual termination.
I don’t think Amorim will throw in the towel, he is too proud. I also don’t think Ineos will sack him, it would be too costly. What I hope is that they (Ineos) will back him in the summer in his FIRST real transfer window as they have promised. If he gets in 4/5 players that can play the system, then add some youngsters from the Academy, we will be fine next season.
Another united knocker who thinks he’s in the know who didn’t have a stellar career of their own just like Agbonlahor who we haven’t heard of doing the same lately and Sutton
Collymore thinks Amorim might leave? He’s definitely staying then.
I think Amorim should stay, but he needs to b able too adjust playing a different system besides the 3-4-3. At the moment this system is NOT working with the Utd players he has. Yes, he hasn’t had the backing of the board for the players he needs but again he (Amorim) has to adjust with the players he’s got. I also think they will stay in Prem but he has to do something.
M.U.F.C are still the biggest club in the world and it should b a privilege to play for them and not just about the money
He has inherited players from 3 previous managers. The only way he is going to thrive is to get rid of all of them.Man has to support him by buying the players he wants .If he then does not start winning games they can get rid of him.
This is ridiculous someone used to playing 442 for his whole life can’t play in a 353 . I am not buying it , Amorim is rubbish. Ole finished 2nd and sacked, ten hag 2 trophies sacked, the rim lies the problem at United. Ferguson would have gone back north with this lot.
