David de Gea was quick to reference Manchester United after a heroic display helped Fiorentina to a 2-1 win over AC Milan on Sunday.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper saved two penalties to help the hosts, with goals scored by Yacine Adli and Albert Gudmundsson to seal the three points.

It was a pulsating encounter with both teams having plenty of opportunities to score.

De Gea’s penalties denied not one, but two Milan players.

Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham had their penalties saved, while Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan stood tall to deny Moise Kean at the other end.

After the match, De Gea took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to his performance, writing: “Started in Spain, made in Manchester, loving it in Italy.”

Fiorentina are currently 11th on two points after two wins and a draw in their last three league matches.
