Manchester United legend reveals regret about Old Trafford move

Former Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up on his time during the Old Trafford dugout.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was determined to make it work at Old Trafford but was unable to lead the Red Devils to success before he was relieved of his duties in 2021.

Solskjaer has revealed that the stunning return of Cristiano Ronaldo may be one of the reasons that led to his Old Trafford exit.

It seemed a dream return for Ronaldo after scoring two goals against Newcastle on his Old Trafford homecoming in 2021.

The Portuguese star was impressive in his return in terms of goal-scoring but behind the scenes, it wasn’t as successful.

The Manchester United legend scored 24 goals in his first season back, but the Norwegian coach has hinted that the return of the blockbuster star may have upset the dressing room dynamics that he was building.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits Cristiano Ronaldo transfer mistake

Speaking on the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, Solskajar has hinted that in hindsight it may not have been the right decision for the squad he was building at Old Trafford.

Speaking at an event as per SkySports Solksjaer said: “Cristiano, one of the best players in the world in the last 15 years.

“I’ve played with him, he played for my Manchester United side, and he’s leaving Juventus.

” But we cannot give him to Manchester City because he will score more goals than Erling Haaland is at the moment probably.

“So I speak to Cristiano, and we bring him to Man United, but I think maybe it affected the whole dressing room, the dynamics in the dressing room.

” Maybe other players felt less important because, of course, this is one of the world’s superstars that comes in.

“He did well, he was the top scorer for that year, he scored 24 goals or something, but I was out of a job 10 weeks later.”
