‘More will come’ – Ten Hag backs star forward after ending goal drought

Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Southampton.

Andre Onana saved a penalty in the first half to help turn the game in United’s favour. Shortly after denying the Saints from the spot, Matthijs de Ligt opened his account for the club to make it 1-0.

United built on their lead before the break when Marcus Rashford scored his first goal of the season. The Reds went on to dominate the first half as Alejandro Garnacho sealed the win with a stoppage time goal to make it 3-0.

After the game, Erik ten Hag said the match ‘was all ours’ once they headed in at the break. He also discussed the end of Rashford’s goal drought which dated back to March.

“It’s so huge for him, for every striker, and when the season starts, you want to be on the scoring list. So now he has his first [of the season] I’m sure more will come,” Ten Hag told TNT Sports.

“When you come back to your club, you have to pick it up. We know we signed a very good player with a lot of attributes and one of them is he is a threat on set pieces. I’m happy he scored that goal.”

United need Rashford at his best if we are to have a successful season.

Many have forgotten Rashford remains one of the key players, even though he’s been out of form for some time. Hopefully, it’s not long before he adds to his tally.
