Two Manchester United stars in England squad; surprise call-up for Angel Gomes

England interim boss Lee Carsley has named two Manchester United players in his squad for next month’s Nations League fixtures.

There is no place for Marcus Rashford, who missed out on a place in the Euro 2024 squad, or Luke Shaw, who is injured.

Former United academy star Angel Gomes has been handed a surprise call-up following his impressive form for Lille.

Meanwhile, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White and Noni Madueke get their first call-ups for the senior Three Lions squad.

The only fear I have apart from injuries is England overdoing it with Mainoo. He has enough on his plate at United and that is his primary focus.

When it comes to Maguire, he could probably do with the game time because I don’t think he’ll be starting games for much longer. Injury ruled him out of the European Championship in Germany earlier this summer.
