Manchester United deal PSG blow in pursuit of Dutch star

Manchester United are working hard to reinforce their defence this summer. The Reds have said goodbye to Raphael Varane and we could see more defenders leave before the 2024/25 season kicks off.

It has been reported that United will listen to offers for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof this summer. The defensive duo were relied upon last season due to injuries whenever they weren’t injured themselves.

Most United fans would argue that we could find upgrades for both players in the transfer market.

United have also been linked with many names to strengthen the defence. The focus was on Jarrad Branthwaite until Everton decided to price him out of a move. The flavour of the month is currently Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

It remains to be seen who will partner Lisandro Martinez in the heart of defence next season.

PSG hijack attempt

Like United, the Ligue 1 champions are looking to add quality to their defence this season. They’ve got concerns over Presnel Kimpembe’s fitness, Danilo Pereira could depart, and as could Milan Skriniar, who was linked with a move to United during the Slovakian’s time at Inter Milan.

PSG’s pursuit of De Ligt never looked likely to be successful, but that didn’t stop the media from speculating about it.

De Ligt has already agreed to join United, as per transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano and despite interest from PSG, there are currently no talks between the Ligue 1 giants and the Netherlands international.

This means Bayern Munich have nothing to distract them from talks with United when it comes to De Ligt’s future.

It has been reported that De Ligt is willing to take a pay cut to move to United this summer.
