BBC pundits conduct questionable interview with Ten Hag after FA Cup success

It was a dramatic FA Cup final at Wembley as Manchester United stunned the reigning Premier League champions Man City with a 2-1 victory.

The Reds showcased one of their best performances of the season, in the biggest game, to ensure Erik ten Hag won his second trophy in as many years at Old Trafford.

In his first season United, Ten Hag ended a six-year trophy drought. The Dutchman should be given lots of credit for getting the ball rolling in terms of success, even if the overall campaign became challenging for fans.

The biggest factor for poor results this season has been injuries, and I believe the FA Cup final proves that since we had some of our best players back though not fully fit.

Ten Hag, who is under pressure to keep his job at United, emphasised his commitment to the team in his post-match interview with BBC Sport.

Former England internationals Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were working for the game on BBC One. They felt it was right to spend their time with Ten Hag by asking questions about the manager’s future rather than focus on the honour achieved by the team.

The exchange with Ten Hag turned awkward when Lineker asked: “Do you think this was your last game?”

Ten Hag replied (via GOAL): “I don’t know. The only thing I’m doing is preparing my team, developing my team. This is a project for me. When I came in I can say it was a mess. Now we are better. We are not where we want to be.”

The interview felt too combative with United stunning City to win the FA Cup, against all odds.

Pathetic from Lineker.

  1. Best to retain Ten Hag and back him in the transfer market while pruning deadwoods among the playing staff. United should not be sacking a coach just because of a bad season that was blighted by injuries. Ten Hag has delivered a trophy in each of the two swasons he has managed the team and he could do more. This is what Man Utd have been missing. Of cause he can be laid off if the downward slide continues into next season after reasonably backing him. I think he deserves to keep his job for now.

  2. Gary Lineker the player used to be such a great class act!! What happened to that man!!
