Thomas Tuchel to Manchester United briefs are set to do the rounds, annoyingly – opinion

This comes from a place of no bias. Erik ten Hag is Manchester United and I couldn’t care less about Thomas Tuchel – or any other manager for that matter – until there is a change at Old Trafford.

Since he and United lost in the same week, I think we can safely predict that briefs will start to appear in the media about the German’s uncertain future.

In my own opinion, I think it’s a sign of disrespect to the current manager, Erik ten Hag, who has a tough job to do as it is.

We’ll likely hear from Tuchel’s camp stating that he is now focused on determining his next position, with his time at Bayern Munich coming to an end this summer.

There may even be whispers from other camps – such as Erik ten Hag or, dare I mention them… Gareth Southgate or Jose Mourinho?

Bayern crashed out of the Champions League last night and Tuchel has led them through a trophyless campaign. That is a rare sign of underachievement for the biggest club in Germany, who had to watch Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title this term.

Last night’s defeat to Real Madrid marks a sour end to Tuchel’s time in Bavaria. Former United defender Rio Ferdinand was keen to have a word on camera ahead of the game.

For once, it was nice to see the same culprits rip shreds out of another manager – but I sat there thinking, isn’t Tuchel the one most of them want to replace Ten Hag in the first place? I can’t keep up. The former Chelsea manager was lambasted for taking Harry Kane off while Bayern were 1-0 up on the night, only to concede two late goals after the striker had been substituted.

Many jumped on the bandwagon to criticise Tuchel for his head-scratching substitution as they felt it helped change the game in Madrid’s favour.

However, Tuchel explained his decision to take off Kane with six minutes remaining of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final defeat, saying the injured England captain couldn’t continue. In other words, the manager was left with no other choice but take off his talisman. Even that is deemed unacceptable on social media.

“His back had gone, he couldn’t go on,” said Tuchel, as per Raphael Honigstein.

Keep this article in mind when you see the next round of Tuchel reports do the rounds. They’re convenient – depending on who you speak to.

  1. I think ETH is a complete buffoon. but if he took a player off and said the reason was injury, I wouldn’t think that he was lying and that he did it for another reason.

what a strange position to take.

Tuchel is a good manager, imo not elite but he is levels and I mean levels above ETH. he would be a sensble appointment – if only to steady the ship after the absolute shit-show that ETH will leave united with.

    1. You are dead right Dave in saying that United are are a complete mess and that is all down to ETH. And we are on a down hill slide and ETH looks to have no clue as hw to stop the slide .
Tuchel will not be everybody’s cup of tea , but as you say Dave he will be a vast improvement on ETH
