Manchester United turn attention to 25 y/o Serie A winning centre-back

Manchester United are being linked with multiple centre-backs ahead of the summer transfer window. Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni is the latest to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

This season has been hindered by injury crises and United’s defence has been the most problematic area.

According to Tutto Juve, United could change their mind about moving for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, who has been heavily linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford.

The report suggests United may instead go for Alessandro Bastoni, with Inter needing to sell a player for big money, although I feel the club will seek value in the market.

Bastoni was part of the Inter side that won the Serie A title on Monday night. He has been a key player in Simone Inzaghi’s side this season but the Italian outfit will be trying to balance their books in the summer.

It was Bastoni’s second Serie A triumph after winning his first with Inter in 2021. That was when Antonio Conte led the Italian giants to their first league title in 11 years.

The 25-year-old defender is renowned for his ball-carrying and ability to play out from the back. These are attributes I suspect Ten Hag will be looking for in a new defender.

However, the most important trait we need in a top defender is availability. It’s no good having players who are unable to play regularly as we’ve learned this season.

Bastoni is potentially one of many defenders being looked at by United, but only time will tell who they will view as their priority target when the transfer window opens.

Let us know in the comments section who you think United should sign this summer.
