Why isn’t the game being shown in the UK?
Manchester United vs Sheffield United will not be broadcast live in the UK as it was not initially selected to be shown on TV before the postponement. The match had to be rescheduled due to United’s dramatic FA Cup quarter-final win against Liverpool.
Sheffield United’s trip to Old Trafford was initially scheduled to take place at 3 pm on a Saturday, meaning it wouldn’t have been broadcast live due to the 3 pm blackout rule.
It doesn’t make sense that they are treating it the same as a 3 pm kick-off when it starts at 8 pm on a Wednesday night.
Sky Sports will be showing the Merseyside derby while Premier Sports, who usually show 3 pm kick-offs in the Republic of Ireland, don’t have any midweek Premier League rights on this occasion. The Irish broadcast will be showing Lazio vs Juventus in the Coppa Italia at the same time.
United go into the game as favourites but it remains to be seen if Alejandro Garnacho will pass fit for the league meeting.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s game against Sheffield United, Ten Hag told reporters: “We had a problem with Alejandro Garnacho, that’s why we took him off during the game but I think he will be fine.
“Scott McTominay we have to assess today, really doubtful.
“Marcus Rashford is also doubtful and there was also an issue with Bruno Fernandes with the hand but I think he can make it.”
