Video: Keane says Ratcliffe ‘won’t be waiting’ too long for Ten Hag’s results to improve

Roy Keane believes Erik ten Hag has to prove himself to new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe from now until the end of the season – or risk losing his job.

Thursday’s defeat to Chelsea saw Manchester United record 17 losses in a campaign for the first time since 1989/90.

It also left the Reds 11 points away from the Champions League spots and nine away from fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, leading to a large majority of the fanbase finally giving up hope in playing among Europe’s elite next term.

Speaking ahead of today’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford – another pivotal fixture – Keane weighed in on the prospect of Ten Hag having somewhat of an ultimatum to turn things around with the club before Ratcliffe decides a change is needed.

“I think for the next month or two, the performances and results between now and the end of the season are going to be, obviously, a huge factor. Pressure will be building when you keep losing matches like they did, particularly during the week [and] a bit like Brentford.

“Jim Ratcliffe won’t be waiting two, three, four years for things to kick in. Yeah, there’s great plans off the field; new stadiums, new people coming in – CEOs etc. The performances on the pitch haven’t been anywhere near good enough.”
