Ella Toone scored twice as Manchester United fought back from conceding an early goal to beat Everton.
The win keeps United’s slim hopes alive in their quest to qualify for next season’s Women’s Champions League.
Sunday’s win over Everton takes United into fourth in the WSL, above rivals Liverpool, who were beaten 4-1 by Man City over the weekend.
As things stand, United are six points behind third-placed Arsenal, although the Gunners have a game in-hand over the Reds.
United bounced back
The Reds got off to the worst possible start after giving away a sloppy early goal.
Yet, Marc Skinner’s side produced an emphatic comeback as they scored four goals in the second half after being booed off the pitch by some fans at half-time.
When speaking to reporters after the match, Skinner praised his team for their efforts.
“I’m hugely pleased with the players’ reaction,” Skinner said. “When they score from a mistake, it obviously gives them confidence. I don’t think they created too much but I felt that we helped them a little bit.
“I’m proud of their reaction at half-time, I’m proud of the conversations at half-time, I’m proud of the resilience shown in the second half.”
Champions League qualification may be out of United’s reach, which suggests we’ve gone backwards this season.
Skinner stressed that ending the season on the strongest possible note has become the ultimate aim for his side.
He added: “For us, it’s about maximising as many points as possible. We know how many games we’ve got left and we’ve got to try and win all of them.”
