Manchester United star makes Team of the Week after 1-1 draw at Brentford

Manchester United performed so poorly against Brentford on Saturday that it may come as a surprise to some of you that one of our players made Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week selection.

The Reds were fortunate to get away with a point against the Bees in a 1-1 draw – even though Mason Mount opened the scoring in the 96th minute. United proved they were unable to hang onto their lead after conceding an equaliser three minutes later.

Brentford wanted it more and it was clear to see.

However, United replied upon goalkeeper Andre Onana to bail them out. He had some help from the woodwork.

Pundits have been lining up to criticise the Cameroon international since he joined United last summer, but his performances have improved drastically since the Africa Cup of Nations.

Crooks selected Onana after his performance against Brentford. He wrote (via BBC Sport): “He’s not my favourite goalkeeper but his performances of late seem to have settled down considerably.

“Onana has made my team selection once before this season and seems to have settled down into some sort of routine and ironed out the errors.

“His save from Brentford’s Yehor Yarmoliuk at the foot of his right-hand post was top class and his recovery to stop Keane Lewis-Potter from putting the rebound away was just as impressive.”

BBC Team of the Week: Onana; Konsa, Saliba, Gabriel; Mac Allister, Gordon, Palmer, Barnes; Diaz, Toney, Son.

  1. This should be the proof to give Erik ten Haag a new contract. I don’t see any other keepers in Garth Crooks’team of the week.
