Sir Alex Ferguson given lifetime membership at Bundesliga club

Sir Alex Ferguson has been given lifetime membership by Eintracht Frankfurt.

The legendary former Manchester United manager, 82, was visited by a delegation from the Bundesliga club after they had travelled to Aberdeen to face the Scottish outfit in the Europa Conference League.

Ferguson was also presented with a Frankfurt shirt with his name and No 10 on the back.

All of this may sound extremely bizarre, but Ferguson has some links to the German side.

The Scot faced Frankfurt in his first game as a player for Rangers, a pre-season friendly in 1967, which they won 5-3 and he scored a hat-trick.

Ferguson later faced Frankfurt as a manager with Aberdeen in the UEFA Cup in 1979, with the Scottish team losing 2-1 on aggregate after the 1-0 defeat in the second leg in Germany.

Ferguson tired of Bayern Munich winning Bundesliga titles

The former United manager, who retired with a Premier League title in 2013, is keen to see Thomas Tuchelā€™s side miss out on the top-flight title in Germany as he told the Eintracht Frankfurt website: ā€œI always hope to see the underdog win.

ā€œBayern fans may not agree with that, but like all the neutral fans in Germany, I really hope to see someone else win the league again.ā€

He also made a bold prediction for Euro 2024 this summer, joking that hosts Germany have ā€˜no chanceā€™ of beating Scotland in their opener.

ā€œNo chance (laughs),ā€ he added. ā€œIā€™m going to see that game live. I must see it.

ā€œScotland are not that bad, you know. They have good midfielders, two good fullbacks.

ā€œOnly the striker position has been difficult in the last few years. The Scottish ans are going to be fantastic.ā€
