Manchester United legend Wes Brown has shared his verdict on Marcus Rashford’s season, claiming that the frontman has struggled to handle the pressure on him.
Indeed, that seems to be the general opinion of most supporters regarding Rashford this term.
He entered 2023/2024 on the back of a career-best campaign after netting 30 goals for the first time, subsequently ending the term by being named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year.
The 26-year-old played a pivotal role in United finishing in the top four, reaching the FA Cup final and winning the Carabao Cup, the latter of which saw him score in every round of the competition, including the final.
Such contributions had fans believing Rashford had finally reached a consistent standard following several years of fluctuating form, but this has now proven not to be the case.
So far this season, he has notched seven goals and six assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. He retains the faith of manager Erik ten Hag, though his spot in England’s Euros squad this summer is likely to be in jeopardy.
Former Red weighs in on Rashford’s season
Brown weighed in on the affairs at his former club, saying (as cited by DAZN): “Marcus Rashford’s not had a great season.
“Last season he was brilliant and you’d have thought that he’d carry it on, but it’s been difficult for him at times. I do think he’s a great player – we all saw what he can do against Manchester City, but he needs to do that more consistently. There’s been a lot of pressure on him this season and he’s not dealt with it that well.
“Manchester United have really struggled with scoring goals generally this season, whereas last season he was the one scoring goals and saving the team.
“He would have liked to have played better up until now, so hopefully he can pick himself up and start to score the goals again for the team to move forward because they’re going to really need him in Rasmus Hojlund’s absence.”
