Transfer reporter provides update on CL club’s expected pursuit of United star as they begin targeting PL players

Marcus Rashford has been long linked with a move away from boyhood club Manchester United and to French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ligue 1 outfit famously failed in their pursuit of the Englishman back in 2022, with the Daily Mail claiming that Rashford was offered £400,000 per week to cut ties with United and make the switch to Paris.

Opting to stay put, he was then granted an almost equally lucrative contract in the summer of 2023 when – on the back of a career-best 30-goal campaign – he put pen to paper on a £325,00-a-week deal that ties him to Old Trafford until 2028.

Rashford has since struggled to replicate such prolific form and has notched just six goals in 33 appearances across all competitions this term, though reports suggested that his misfiring ways hadn’t deterred PSG from reigniting their interest.

When it was announced last month that Kylian Mbappe had informed senior officials that he’d be departing upon his contract expiry, Rashford again found himself linked with PSG as they plan for life without their star talisman.

PSG put Rashford pursuit on ice

Julien Laurens, however, has declared that as it stands, the Parisians are considering alternative options to United’s academy graduate.

“At the moment, Rashford is not in the shortlist that PSG have drawn up,” he revealed to talkSPORT. “They had a plan in case Kylian was leaving.

“Now that he is leaving, they can activate the plan. On the plan you find Bruno Guimaraes and Bernardo Silva from the Premier League and [Victor] Osimhen and [Rafael] Leao from Serie A. Also a young defender from France, Leny Yoro who’s only 18 but who is maybe the most gifted player of his generation that a lot of English clubs are also following. Right now, this is the shortlist. Ideally then could sign two of those five, maybe one, maybe three. It depends on a lot of things.

“Rashford is not there [on the list]. He might be there, remember last summer and the summer before his brother met with Nasser Al-Khelaifi the PSG chairman but that was more to please Mbappe because he wanted to play with Rashford they are good friends. Now that Kylian is leaving, I’m not so sure how relevant the Rashford link is.”
