Graham Potter holds secret meeting with Manchester United’s incoming sporting director

Dan Ashworth is eager to get started at Manchester United as the club’s new sporting director.

A deal has yet to be agreed with Newcastle, with the Magpies deciding to place Ashworth on gardening leave until an agreement has been reached between the two clubs.

Newcastle are not prepared to leave Ashworth join United this year without receiving a hefty compensation fee.

Some reports claim Newcastle want double the £10 million offered for Ashworth.

One of the biggest decisions facing Ashworth at Old Trafford is the future of the manager. Will the Ineos Sports group back Erik ten Hag or will they opt to hire their own man?

A number of manager’s names are being put forward as a result. They include Zinedine Zidane, Roberto de Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

The latest update from states that Ashworth has met with former Chelsea and Brighton manager Potter, with the pressure mounting on Ten Hag.

According to The Sun, Ashworth and Potter worked closely at Brighton and it is understood the pair got together last weekend.

Potter, who was sacked by Chelsea in April after just six months in charge, has snubbed several offers as he waits for the right job to take the next step in his career.

Reports suggest Ratcliffe tried to hire Potter to manage his Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
