Manchester United player ratings vs Nottingham Forest: Casemiro sends Reds in quarter-finals

Casemiro scored an 89th-minute winner for Manchester United away to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round. The Reds march on into the quarter-finals and face a home tie against Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag won the Carabao Cup during a promising first campaign but he is now under pressure to deliver in a troubled second season that would have intensified if we had lost at the City Ground.

United created enough chances in the first half to win two football matches against Forest, but we had to wait until the very end to find the back of the net through Casemiro. We missed our primary centre-forward again.

Without further ado, here are our player ratings from United’s 1-0 win over Forest:

Andre Onana: One of his best performances in a United shirt as it involved several key saves – 5 saves in total. The best of the lot prevented Taiwo Awoniyi from scoring. Onana also completed 26 passes. 7

Diogo Dalot: A playing showing good form. Some might say finally, but Dalot is one of the first names on the teamsheet currently. Tonight showed why as he crossed brilliantly for Scott McTominat’s headed chances. 7

Victor Lindelof: Made some key interventions and looked strong in the tackle. 7

Raphael Varane: Calm head at the back. Considered a doubt for tonight’s game but came through it without any problems. 6

Sofyan Amrabat: Wingers find it too easy to beat him for pace. It was exposed tonight when he came up against former Liverpool forward Origi. Looks better going forward… 4

Scott McTominay: Nuisance inside the box. Came close with his header in the first half. 5

Casemiro: Performance showed signs of an improvement. Scored the crucial goal at the end. 6

Bruno Fernandes: Still not at his best but set up Casemiro for the winner. 6

Antony: Had a cracking effort hit the crossbar at the start of the match. Then proceeded to track back and offer little in attack. 5

Marcus Rashford: Another frustrating night for the forward. Needs to take responsibility. 3

Alejandro Garnacho: The Argentine was quiet tonight and struggled to have an impact from the left wing.

Subs

Amad Diallo: Didn’t have the impact he would have hoped for after coming off the bench. 5

Jonny Evans: N/A

Kobbie Mainoo: N/A
