Senior United man tipped to join his former club after falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag

Christian Eriksen has been linked with a sensational return to Ajax, where his senior career began.

The Manchester United star had reportedly been in talks with a January exit from the club after an approach arrived from Galatasaray and while a deal failed to materialise before the window closed, they could reignite their interest in the summer.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Eriksen will part ways with the Red Devils at the end of the season. Given that his contract runs until June 2025, they’d recuperate a fee for the Dane after acquiring him for free in 2022, making him one of the first signings of Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

He has fallen out of favour considerably in his sophomore season though; initially due to Mason Mount’s arrival, then Scott McTominay’s goalscoring form, and now Kobbie Mainoo’s scintillating emergence into the first-team.

Eriksen, 32, has made just nine Premier League starts this term, totalled 848 minutes on the pitch and completed only five full 90s. In the past four matches, he has been an unused substitute.

As per TuttoMercatoWeb (cited by TeamTalk), the experienced playmaker could favour a move to the Johan Cruyff Arena over 10 years after he left the club for Tottenham Hotspur.
