Millie Turner called up for Lionesses to replace Leah Williamson

Manchester United defender Millie Turner will be hoping to earn his first senior cap after being called up to the Lionesses squad for friendly matches against Austria and Italy.

Turner replaces Arsenal star Leah Williamson, who had to pull out of their recent WSL match with a minor hamstring injury, but the setback came less than a month after she returned to action for the Gunners after a nine-month recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament rupture.

The World Cup runners-up will travel to Spain later today, but it was Turner that coach Sarina Wiegman turned to in Williamson’s absence.

A statement from the FA read (via The Guardian): “Millie Turner has been called up to the England squad for this month’s fixtures with Austria and Italy being played in southern Spain. The Manchester United defender replaces Leah Williamson, who has withdrawn after missing out for Arsenal at the weekend with an injury.”

Turner signed for United in their inaugural season back in 2018 and has been an integral part of the squad ever since. She has made 133 appearances for the Reds.

Hopefully, Turner can get her first senior cap with the Lionesses this time around. It’s been a long time coming!
