Man United could offer FOUR players to Barcelona in Frenkie de Jong deal

According to reports, Manchester United will have to pay a hefty transfer price to Barcelona in order to get Frenkie de Jong in the summer.

As per a report in Mundo Deportivo, the midfield star has a £90 million price tag. However, United may be able to recruit him for less if they include one or two of their players in the deal.

Since Erik ten Hag took over as manager in the summer of 2022, De Jong has been United’s top transfer target. The two won the Dutch domestic double together in 2019, but up until this point, the midfielder has been unwavering in his desire to stay at Barcelona.

He hasn’t accepted a contract extension that was extended to him in November, though, and sources from Spain indicate that Barca have placed a €100 million price tag on its Dutch star.

According to The Daily Express, United could offer four of their players in a part-exchange offer for De Jong.

The article has named Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Scott McTominay as the players United could offer to Barcelona.

Greenwood and Sancho have been loaned out by United and the club considers them surplus to requirement at Old Trafford. Greenwood had issues off the pitch that did not sit well with the club and the supporters and he is likely to be sold in the summer.

Sancho, after a feud with manager Erik ten Hag, has been loaned to his former club Borussia Dortmund. He may be sold in the summer if ten Hag is still the manager at the club. However, in case ten Hag is relieved of his duties at Old Trafford in the summer, Sancho may have a future at the club.

Antony has lost his place in the starting XI, with Alejandro Garnacho being deployed at the right-wing and the Argentinian player performing well. The Brazilian winger has failed to impressed since his big money move from Ajax with recent reports linking him to a move to the Saudi Pro League, United could be willing to let Barcelona have him.

McTominay has been United’s player of the season possibly. The only reason he could be made a part of the de Jong deal is because he doesn’t get enough playing time at the club. Despite his goal scoring form, he is only used as a substitute.

Signing de Jong could give the United midfield a completely new dimension. If there is any chance of recruiting the Dutch star, the club should throw everything at the deal in their efforts to sign him.
