“You never know” – Manchester United transfer target drops hint over summer move

Benfica midfielder Joao Neves is a summer transfer target for Manchester United.

The Portuguese midfielder appears to be United’s main priority, with the club already thinking about making a move for the player.

Neves’ release clause is now valued at over €120 million (£104 million), thus United would have to pay an enormous amount to compel a deal. There are even rumours that the release clause has now risen, making it a little more difficult or United to struck a deal.

Before his team’s Europa League match against Toulouse, he was questioned about his future at Benfica. Neves stated:

“Staying at Benfica next year? I can’t promise anything for next season. My wish at the moment is to stay at Benfica and then we will see, you never know.” (via Fabrizio Romano)

He added: “I promise to do my best in every training session, in every game, and I think that is one of my greatest qualities. I’m focused on Benfica and even more so on [Thursday’s] game, which is the next one. I think I will do my best in every game and in every training session.”

His remarks about his future would have encouraged United to make a move in the summer and sign one of their primary transfer targets.

With the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo and the possible signing of Neves, United’s midfield would be set for the next decade. To have two of the most talented young defensive midfielders in the team would be a dream for any manager.
