Tottenham planning to submit offer for long-term Man United transfer target

According to Spanish reporter Gerard Romero, Tottenham Hotspur plan to make a formal bid to capture Barcelona star and Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong during the next transfer window.

The midfielder has become disgruntled at the Catalan giants after their recent troubles this season, sparking speculation about the future of the Netherlands international. De Jong is willing to leave Barcelona at the end of the season.

Man Utd have always admired the Dutchman, and they even made an attempt to get him a few years back. De Jong, though, was unwilling to move at that moment.

According to rumours, the Red Devils are still interested in signing him, and if the 26-year-old decides to leave the Blaugrana this summer, they may make a move for him.

Romero has stated (via Sport) that Tottenham have now entered this competition with Manchester United, and they are prepared to step up their efforts to defeat United.

The reporter also says that Tottenham are prepared to make an official bid of about £51 million, including add-ons, to sign De Jong, and that they are prepared to give the Dutchman a deal comparable to what he currently earns at Barcelona in order to convince him to come to join Ange Postecoglou’s team.

United are looking to sign a midfielder in the summer as the future of Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat and Christian Eriksen are all uncertain.

Most likely, all three are set to leave the club as Erik ten Hag and Sir Jim Ratcliffe plan to rebuild the team in the summer.

Signing de Jong would be a great coup for any club that signs him in the summer with the midfielder widely regarded in the world as one of the best in his position.
