Ben Foster makes Scott McTominay prediction after finding new role in team

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has claimed that Scott McTominay could stay at the club for the rest of his life if he is happy to accept his newfound role in the team.

There was a time during the summer when it looks like McTominay had no future at Old Trafford. It was heavily suggested that Erik ten Hag no longer had him as part of his plans, but that has changed throughout the season.

McTominay was linked with summer moves to Bayern Munich and West Ham, but a transfer never materialised.

The 27-year-old made the front pages as he grabbed a late winner at Villa Park in a 2-1 victory on Sunday. McTominay’s header came as a boost to United’s Champions League hopes.

McTominay has scored eight goals in all competitions this season and he is the club’s top scorer in the Premier League with a tally of seven.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Foster went on to claim that McTominay could extend his stay at United if he is happy with his new role in the squad.

Foster said: “He could make a career by staying at Manchester United, all the way through. Like I say, he’s not going to play every minute, but he’s not going to start every game but you know that? He will play for 10, 12, 13 years at Manchester United.

“By doing it properly and being that guy who, when the chips are down you need somebody to come on, or just for the odd game here, the cup games here and there and being that good guy around the place and I think Scott McTominay has turned into that”.

McTominay’s new role

Ten Hag has pushed McTominay forward in games when United are searching for a goal, presumably because we are lacking in the striker department and there is nobody to call on other than 21-year-old Rasmus Hojlund.

The Scotland international has played behind Hojlund in a 4-4-1-1 formation and he continues to cause havoc for defenders inside the box.

McTominay deserves credit for playing his way back into the team. Just like the manager deserves credit for finding a new role for a player that was previously tipped to leave the club.
