Manchester United finally learn fifth-round FA Cup opponents after penalties decides the tie

Manchester United had to wait to learn their FA Cup fifth-round opponents due to Nottingham Forest and Bristol City’s fourth-round replay.

Now, it’s set in stone that the Red Devils will face fellow Premier League opposition Forest on Wednesday, February 28 at 7.45pm. 180 minutes and extra time was not enough to separate the teams, but the Midlands outfit netted five penalties to Bristol’s three.

Another away trip awaits United after their win over League Two Newport County took them to Rodney Parade in South Wales, however, this next one may bring back unwanted memories; the last time Erik ten Hag’s side visited the City Ground, they fell to a defeat at the stadium for the first time since 1995. The scoreline was 2-1.

Forest’s ever-faithful home support is frequently lauded by neutral supporters, managers and pundits, and it’s only increased since their promotion in 2022.

The FA Cup is the only realistic prospect of silverware for both sides, so fans can expect strong starting 11s from both Ten Hag and Nuno Espirito Santo.

In terms of United’s schedule, the match comes sandwiched between a home meeting with Fulham (February 24) and derby day at the Etihad (March 3).
