Harry Kane has named Manchester United icon as his role model as a kid

Harry Kane has disclosed that Manchester United and England star David Beckham was his boyhood hero.

With 28 goals in all competitions so far this season, the Bayern Munich star is having an incredible debut season with the German champions.

His remarkable run of form for Thomas Tuchel’s team has only served to increase his global reputation, evoking comparisons to Beckham, who, after playing football for a while in the 1990s and 2000s, transcended the game.

Comparable in his professional trajectory to Beckham, Kane left the Premier League to work for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Looking back, Kane told BBC Sport how, long before the age of social media and a plethora of internet influencers, David Beckham was a role model for him. The Bayern Munich striker acknowledged the influence Victoria Beckham, the girlfriend of the football great, and other celebrities have on him.

‘I used to look up to players like David Beckham’, Kane told BBC Sport.

‘Now I’m in that situation – there are a lot of young boys and girls looking up to me.

‘Looking at what I do, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

‘You listen to your role models. I would have done anything Beckham said when I was a kid.’

And now that Kane has confessed that the football legend was one of his childhood inspirations, he will be trying to accomplish what Beckham was unable to do by winning a major trophy with England at this summer’s Euro 2024.

Beckham inspired a generation of fans and young football players during his time at Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
