Senior United man has held ‘secret talks’ with European club over potential switch before their deadline day

In a surprising turn of events, Christian Eriksen has been linked with an imminent transfer away from Manchester United.

As per Fotomac, the Dane is being heavily linked with Galatasaray and has held ‘secret talks’ with the Turkish side, whose transfer window doesn’t close until later this week.

Eriksen would reportedly move on loan from now until the summer, after which Galatasaray would have the option of making the deal permanent.

The experienced playmaker has been limited to just 19 appearances in all competitions this term due to injury troubles, United’s depth in midfield and the recent breakthrough of young prospect Kobbie Mainoo; the teenager has all but nailed down a starting role in the 11 and now that Casemiro is fit, the pair will likely be named on the teamsheet together each week.

Eriksen has previously bemoaned reduced role

Erik ten Hag has opted to leave Eriksen on the bench for the entirety of the Reds’ last two Premier League outings and back in October 2023, the 31-year-old admitted that his reduced game time was far from ideal.

“Ask the manager why I’m starting on the bench, that’s out of my hands,” he told TNT Sports’ Fred Caldeira. “Obviously I want to play as much as possible… obviously the manager is looking the other way.”

Should United and Galatasaray not be able to reach an agreement in the coming days, the latter are prepared to reignite their pursuit at the end of the season. Eriksen’s contract expires in 2025.
