Kobbie Mainoo opened his Premier League account in the most emphatic fashion tonight by scoring a 97th-minute winner to seal a crucial win for Manchester United.
The Reds, having scored two early goals, were clinging onto their 3-1 lead as they entered the final 10 minutes of this evening’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Max Kilman and Pedro Neto put a dampener on the away side’s spirits though when they snatched one back in the 85th minute and equalised in the 90+5th minute respectively.
Then, Mainoo took matters into his own hands; he picked up the ball outside the area and shimmied past the Wolves defence before dispatching a scintillating curling finish past Jose Sa and reeling off to celebrate in front of the travelling supporters.
It comes just four days after the 18-year-old starlet scored his first-ever senior goal during United’s FA Cup win over Newport County.
Mainoo reacts to an unforgettable night
Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, the Carrington graduate was still on cloud nine when reflecting on tonight’s affairs.
“It’s a dream come true. This is such a tough place to come, they’ve had a good home run here, so we had to get the win… I’ve still not come down from it – I still feel like I’m dreaming, to be honest! You’re going to have to give me a second to come back to it!
“To start playing in the Premier League for my boyhood club, it’s been amazing. Now, just trying to get a good run of games in and win more games, and get a real momentum going.”
