Former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady has weighed in on Marcus Rashford’s recent affairs with Manchester United.
As we’re all well aware by now, the forward was called in for talks with senior club officials on Monday over an internal disciplinary matter; he had been spotted clubbing in Belfast last week and subsequently reported ill for training before being omitted from the matchday squad that beat Newport County on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag reiterated today in his pre-Wolves press conference that the case was closed and that Rashford had taken full accountability for his actions. He will be available for tomorrow’s match and has trained with his teammates as usual.
Aside from the incident, it’s no secret that the 26-year-old has looked a shadow of his former self this season. He entered 2023/2024 on the back of his most prolific campaign to date after netting 30 goals for the first time in his career but has registered just four in all competitions as we enter the second half of the term, so you can understand supporters harbouring concerns over where his head is at.
Coady voices Rashford worries
Having played with the No.10 on England duty, Coady had his say on the situation, saying (via Birmingham Mail): “It’s hard to put my finger on it having known him and spent time in his company, obviously being with England and different things.
“I’ve seen him in a different light, sitting down and having a coffee with him, him being a top fella and speaking about Manchester United.
“So, seeing these things in the press, you look at it and you think, ‘What is actually going on?’ Something is happening, everybody can see it. But whether that is with United or Marcus, I am not sure.”
