Manchester United in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over midfield ace

Manchester United are reportedly considering Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

According to Portuguese publication Record, as cited by CaughtOffside, United have entered discussions with Sporting about the prospect of luring the 24-year-old to Old Trafford.

It is suggested that negotiations are underway, but it doesn’t sound like a deal United would be able to afford this week – ahead of the January transfer window deadline. The report states that United must pay the £68m release clause.

United are not expected to add to their squad ahead of Thursday night’s 11pm deadline.

Hjulmand may be a player worth keeping an eye on for the remainder of the season.

Sporting are currently on top of Liga Portugal and his focus right now is likely to be on winning the title. It is believed that the club will attempt to convince Hjulmand to stay by making him captain.

It remains to be seen whether Casemiro will be at Old Trafford next season, however, United need to sign another defensive midfielder one way or another.

We thought Sofyan Amrabrat would have been a good addition to our midfield, but his loan spell has been underwhelming and I would be shocked if United kept him on for next season.
