Manchester United are expected to actively take part in the transfer market this year as new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe aims to change the direction and the shape of the club.
The INEOS chairman is eyeing a number of new additions at the club to help them reach the former glory days.
Throughout this transfer window, Ivan Toney’s name hasn’t disappeared—the striker is frequently mentioned as being interested in leaving Brentford.
The England striker just returned from an eight-month ban and scored a goal on his return. But there’s still doubt about his future and Toney recently fanned the flames by saying he would love to sign for a big club.
Tottenham and Arsenal are two of the admirers, but a January transfer is thought to be too costly, and there are persistent rumours that Brentford are demanding £100 million.
Darragh MacAnthony, Ivan Toney’s former chairman at Peterborough, has said that the Brentford star would be the ideal striker for Manchester United.
In an interview with The Hard Truth podcast, MacAnthony said that Ratcliffe and United ought to consider making Toney the new face of their team.“He’s so underrated. He’s sensational. United spent £60 million on a striker who is 22 this summer. Ivan will end up scoring more goals than him by the end of the season. If Jim Ratcliffe has any sense they should have already done that deal. Ivan Toney would be the face of the new Man United structure and change everything and probably give them an outside chance of getting top four in the second half of the season. What a player,” MacAnthony said.
It’s not a secret that United are on the lookout for a striker in the transfer market. They need someone who can lead the attack, share the burden of scoring goals with Rasmus Hojlund and also help the Dane develop into a world class striker.
