Manchester United ‘in contact’ with veteran Bayern Munich attacker over six-month loan deal

Manchester United have reportedly ignited their pursuit of veteran Bayern Munich frontman Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

The Old Trafford faithful will have entered the January window with minimal expectations when it comes to the club’s transfer business as in recent years, there’s little movement in the winter.

As well as that, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent stake is still in the process of being ratified by the Premier League so his hands are tied when it comes to bolstering Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Alas, the manager will have to make do somehow and it’s believed that – like last season – loans will be the way to go. Depth up front is deemed a priority given the side’s significant lack of firepower in attack; United have scored the lowest amount of goals (24) than any team in the top 14 of the table.

Last year saw Burnley’s Wout Weghorst sought to paper over the cracks mid-January but by the time he returned to Turf Moor, he’d failed to open his league account as a Red despite making 17 appearances. He tallied two goals in total across 31 outings.

Negotiations ongoing over Choupo-Moting

Fans will be hoping any short-term acquisition fares better this time around and as per journalist Seb Ecrivain Foot, United are ‘in contact’ with Bayern regarding a six-month deal for Choupo-Moting.

The 34-year-old will be available for a cut-price loan fee and would provide depth to young Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial.
