Ole Gunnar Solskjaer linked with first managerial role since Manchester United exit

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has kept a low profile since his sacking after a humbling defeat to Watford in 2021. The Norwegian could soon return to management.

According to Fotbollskanalen, Solskjaer has held talks with the Swedish FA regarding their vacant managerial position.

The 50-year-old has been out of a job since being sacked by United in November 2021 following a 4-1 defeat away at Watford.

Now, Solskjaer could be on the verge of a return to the dugout in what would be his first taste of international management.

Sweden are looking for a new manager after Janne Andersson resigned following their final Euro 2024 qualifying clash. They finished third in the group and failed to qualify for the knockouts.

Solskjaer has reportedly been identified as a candidate to succeed Andersson in the Sweden dugout. It would mean he could go back to managing Victor Lindelof again.

It is also understood that Sweden have former Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg and Australia women’s coach Tony Gustavsson high on their shortlist for the vacant role. Another name under consideration is Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson.
