Ange Postecoglou dwells on injury problems ahead of trip to Manchester United

Tottenham’s injury problems have grown ahead of their trip to Manchester United.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Ben Davies and Giovani Lo Celso could both face a month in the treatment room, but Romero is nearing a return to action.

“From the last game, Ben Davies obviously came up with a hamstring so probably looking at a month or so for him out,” Postecoglou revealed in his press conference on Friday, as per The Standard.

“[Lo Celso] similar although it’s harder to diagnose where he’s at, we’re going to send him for further tests to look at some issues. He’s out this weekend. Dane Scarlett has picked up an injury in training so he’ll miss out.”

It was first suggested that Romero would face up to four to five weeks out, but he has now returned to training but won’t be fit enough to face United this weekend.

“Coming back, the only one who has joined the main group today is Romero,” Postecoglou added.

“That’s it I think, everyone else who is injured is training away from the main group. Romero’s just started training so fair to say it may be a bit quick this weekend.”

United have had a flurry of injuries this season and Erik ten Hag expects a few key players to return to the matchday squad on Sunday. All three Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Casemiro will be in contention for selection for the first time in a long time.

Meanwhile, Spurs will travel to Old Trafford hoping to move ahead of rivals Arsenal in the table.

The Gunners aren’t in action this weekend, but we also need to turn our season around and remember that they beat us 2-0 in the reverse fixture this season.

Postecoglou will have two new signings available when they make their way to United.

Welcoming Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin to Hotspur Way this week as their latest recruits, Postecoglou will have the duo at his disposal to make up for the absentees they have due to injuries.

“I’m really happy to get both boys in,” Ange said. “Timo – I think everyone knows his playing pedigree, obviously inn Germany, in the Premier and then back in the Germany. I have been aware of him for a very long time.

“I think he is a good fit for us from a playing perspective but also a good guy, a good personality and very motivated to come to Tottenham and play for us.

“Radu’s similar. Obviously a position we kind of prioritised. We obviously went into the season a little bit short in (terms of) numbers in that area – we let Davinson Sanchez go after the window. So we kind of knew that, if there was a good opportunity in January, we were going to move. We’ve been looking at him for a while.

“Johan (Lange) and the lads in there have worked hard to put some options there and quickly identified that Radu would be a great fit for us – I had a good chat to him. Again I think from a football perspective, but also from the environment and culture that we have, he’s going to be a really good fit.

“From what I understand, both will be eligible to play (against Manchester United), which is the first thing and, secondly, Radu has been playing up until last week so he is in good condition. And Timo hasn’t played for a little while – obviously they had their winter break (in Germany) but he has been back in training for the last seven to 10 days. So both will be available which is a good thing.

“After the Manchester United game, we have a couple of weeks until our next one, so getting them in this early helps us bed him in.”
