Timely fitness boost for Postecoglou ahead of United trip as crucial player claims he’s ‘ready’ for injury return

Tottenham Hotspur are set to be granted a huge fitness boost just in time for their trip to face Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou, like Erik ten Hag, has been forced to navigate countless injury woes to his squad over the season and has seen pivotal players dealt long-term layoffs.

Both teams will head into Sunday’s Premier League contest with a long list of absentees, whether it be for fitness reasons or for international duty; the likes of Son Heung-min, Cristian Romero, Yves Bissouma, Casemiro, Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are just a handful of the players that will miss out at Old Trafford.

Spurs have been granted a significant glimmer of hope though, with pivotal centre-half Micky van de Ven claiming that he’s ‘ready’ to return to action after spending 10 weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

He made the substitutes’ bench for the side’s FA Cup clash at home to Burnley last Friday but was unused as they saw out a late win to progress to the fourth round of the competition.

Van de Ven eyeing return at Old Trafford

Speaking via the club website, Van de Ven expressed his eagerness to get back on the pitch.

“I’m really happy to be back. It’s always a good feeling to be back with the squad and be on the bench. Next week a big game is coming [against United] so hopefully, I’ll get some minutes over there,” he began.

“I’m feeling fit, I have no pain anymore, so I think I’m ready. It’s long, it was like 10 weeks I’ve been out, it’s frustrating when you have to watch from the sidelines. It’s a really good time for the players to come back, it’s an important second half of the season ahead so hopefully everybody will stay fit, and we’ll see what will happen.”
