Bayern enter race for 19-goal United target but will hold off pursuit until summer

Bayern Munich have set their sights on in-form frontman Serhou Guirassy but will hold off on their pursuit until the end of the season.

According to Christian Falk, the Bundesliga giants would be willing to trigger the forward’s €20 million (£17m) release clause in the summer, so long as he is not sold by Stuttgart this January amid interest from several clubs – including Manchester United.

The Red Devils are in the market for a low-cost striker addition to ease the goalscoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund and have outlined three potential options in the form of Bundesliga trio Timo Werner, Eric Choupo-Moting and Guirassy, as well as midfielder Thomas Muller, as per The Athletic.

Financial Fair Play restrictions, however, mean that a bid for Guirassy is less likely than a loan for the other players unless United are able to raise funds by sanctioning a significant outgoing.

So far this season, the 27-year-old has registered 19 goals and two assists across 16 appearances in all competitions. He’s now set to represent Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations over the coming weeks.
