Shola Shoretire in preliminary talks over new Manchester United deal

Manchester United are in the process of working on a new deal with 19-year-old forward Shola Shoretire.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are in preliminary talks with Shoretire over a new contract as they plan a loan exit for the youngster in the January transfer window.

Shoretire has struggled to breakthrough since his senior debut for United at the age of 17. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was manager at the time and he later gave Shoretire another appearance from the bench against Real Sociedad when he became the youngest player to represent United in European competition.

Now, under Erik ten Hag, opportunities in the first-team are limited. He has been overtaken in the United pecking order by other academy graduates, so it makes sense that he wants to get out on loan to challenge himself elsewhere.

The MEN adds that Shoretire received interested from Championship clubs and abroad last summer. Some of those clubs are expected to reignite their interest in the forward this month.

It is believed that a new contract is being given to help protect Shoretire’s value in the transfer market. That is why we can’t rule out a permanent transfer in the near future.

At least by going out on loan in January, Shoretire will get to challenge himself as a first-team player abroad or in the Championship. He will gain a lot of experience from that and can potentially help put him on the market, too.
