Manchester United have confirmed their first departure of January, with several players expected to follow suit in a month when Erik ten Hag will be looking to free up some funds.

United will not be able to spend freely anytime soon if some of their frozen assets in the form of players not featuring at all are sold.

Donny van de Beek, who joined the club over three years ago, definitely falls into that category and the Dutchman has now sealed a move away from the club.

The news was confirmed on the club’s official website on New Year’s Day, with the former Ajax midfielder set to spend the second half of this season on loan at German club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Van de Beek will be hoping to leave a lasting impression at Frankfurt, having struggled for any game time at all in the last three years.

The terms of Van de Beek’s loan are not specified in the announcement but according to Fabrizio Romano, Frankfurt will pay a loan fee and cover a sizeable chunk of the midfielder’s wages.

Additionally, there is a non-mandatory option to buy at the end of the campaign for a reported €11m rising to a potential €14m.
